Lessons From Dr. Seuss To Build A Bulletproof Mindset And Smash Goals To Smithereens
Do you ever feel like you are always a few steps away from where you want to be?
That no matter how many times you plan out your goals or New Year’s resolutions…
…you just CAN’T get there?
Maybe you have TRIED to:
> Lose that extra weight you’ve been thinking about for a while now…
> Get back in shape after months (or years!) of being “too busy”…
> Build muscle and finally get ripped…
But at the end of the day?
Heck, there’s a good chance you start out STRONG.
You’ve got a PLAN. It’s going to happen this time – but…
Eventually, it falls apart.
Every. Damn. Time.
And when that happens, you say things like:
“Well…I’m just too busy.”
“I just have no willpower to do it on my own.”
“I like food too much.”
“I just lack the self-control and I always over-do it.”
And I get it, because I have said those things too.
Truth is, we all have.
But, it doesn’t have to be this way.
It is 100% possible to achieve your goals, even if you have struggled with:
> Staying consistent in the long run
> Having an insanely busy schedule
> Feeling frustrated with a lack of results
Here’s my top 3 tactics for going from saying…I CAN’T…to…I CAN…to…I DID.
By the way…
We are offering a FREE Way To Fitness Seminar for people who would like to SMASH their 2017 goals into smithereens, stay in shape over the holidays, and create INCREDIBLE changes in their lives.
Details are below 🙂
1. Listen To Dr. Seuss (he’s a professional)
Stop saying “I am busy”, “I am tired”, and “I am out of shape.”
The key here is the phrase, I AM.
What happens when you self-identify with negativity is that you start to believe it. And then you become it.
Here’s the deal:
YOU are not busy, you HAVE a busy schedule.
YOU are not out of shape, you need to IMPROVE your health.
See the difference?
Straight from the mouth of ol’ Seuss:
Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.
And the secret is that you get to choose the YOU that you become.
(Head trip eh?)
It starts with reinforcing positive beliefs within yourself – and then turning those beliefs into action.
Which leads me to…
2. Play Tricks On Your Brain (more fun than it sounds, trust me)
Have you ever thought about buying a new car? Say a Jeep Cherokee for example (really, it’s just an example…I promise…).
And then, next thing you know, you start seeing Jeep Cherokee’s EVERYWHERE.
They were always there, but you just started noticing them.
For science types, this is called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon. But most people call it a “frequency illusion.”
This goes beyond selective attention for that one thing…
Your brain is actually EXCITED by the fact that you’ve learned or heard about something new, and is in effect saying “Hey that’s AWESOME, I’m going to look for that EVERYWHERE without even thinking about it!”
Pretty cool eh?
Instead of buying a new car, you can use this effect to overcome negative thinking.
Every morning, take a minute or two to write down 3 things that you are grateful for, and 3 things that you are excited to achieve that day.
These could be as simple as “I’m grateful for this fresh cup of coffee,” or “I’m excited to crush my workout later in the day.”
When you do this, you “trick” your brain into focusing on positive things in the world that ALIGN with your goals…
…Instead of only seeing the things that are holding you back.
Imagine what would happen in your life if you could get rid of 90% of those negative thoughts that hold you back, and replace them with positive, affirming thoughts?
This is powerful stuff.
Watch out Philadelphia – 2017 is about to get nuts.
3. Get Yo Zen On
Now, a lot of people are going to balk at this, but – bear with me.
Because this one, simple action will have a MASSIVE impact on your life – if you do it.
Okay – there are a LOT of misconceptions about what meditation “is”…so much so that I hesitate to even use the word.
Because at the end of the day, all this means is taking a few minutes of SPACE for yourself in the morning to clear your brain and set you up for the day.
Here’s a couple ways you can easily get started:
> Download a free app like Headspace or Calm and try their guided intro programs (these are free to get started, and they are very small time commitments)
> Go for a 5-10 minute walk and practice being present. Focus on your breathing and on noticing the world around you. Relax.
> When you first wake up, instead of checking your phone or jumping up to start the day, stay under the covers for a few extra minutes. Close your eyes, breathe deep, and try to relax your entire body.
If you do just ONE of these, you will notice an immediate change to your mindset going into the day.
I practically guarantee it. 🙂
Some say every journey starts with a step….
Every journey starts with a choice – the choice to stay where you are, and change nothing…
Or the choice to take a leap of faith, and make change happen.
The choice is yours.
